How Live Online Scoreboards Work

A live online scoreboard usually has one private control surface and one public display surface. The scorer changes the board from a control link, and the Viewer page updates for fans, venue screens, or stream overlays.

The three-part model

  1. 1

    Owner Console

The board owner configures the board and keeps full control available.

  2. 2

    Shared Control

A trusted scorer updates the live score from a separate device.

  3. 3

    Viewer

The public display page shows the scoreboard on a stream, TV, projector, or shared link.

Why separate links matter

The Viewer should be safe to open on public displays. Control links should stay private because they can change the board. Separating these jobs makes the event easier to operate and less likely to expose editing controls to viewers.

Where live scoreboards are useful

  • Sports streams using OBS browser sources.
  • School gyms and temporary venue screens.
  • Club matches where a volunteer scores from a phone.
  • Events where fans need a simple live score link.

FAQ

Do viewers need to refresh the scoreboard?

No. The Viewer page is designed to follow live board updates after it is opened.
